Merefolk is shaped by landscape and the freedom found within it.
Open ground, weathered stone, the shifting colours of sky and water inform a palette of natural colour, texture and material. Raw cottons, linens and wools are worked with natural dyes, bringing out the individual character of the fibre and allowing variations in surface and tone to develop.
Volume creates space around the body. Fabrics fold, gather and move rather than restrict. The clothes translate the space and freedom of an open landscape into something that can be worn.
A landscape is formed over time, as is each piece we create. Every garment is hand-dyed and finished to order over many hours at our studio in North Yorkshire, close to the landscape that informs the collection.
Like the permanence of the land, the collection builds on what came before, with existing styles remaining as new pieces are added slowly. Through wear, each garment becomes familiar, softening, shifting and gaining character.
Merefolk exists to make these clothes.
